I have a co-worker whom was very instrumental in my early brewer development that says he does not have time to brew this fall, Family and mostly an young son . So that is cool, He has some specialty and Base malts that he is going to get rid of . He said his wife told him to brew them or get rid of it. So im taking it. I kidded him about fighting the rats at his place. He knows what he is doing as far as homebrewing is concerned. His grains are about 18 months old he said at the oldest, some are newer. I think for free i will check them out,he has a couple of sealed 50#Bags. He said he will keep his hops , which with the larger order i have coming im not worried there. So what about the grains? I think i shall make a ton of brews in my near future if there ok.

I'd guess they would be fine if they've been stored well.

As long as he kept them dry, there's no problem. But you will owe him some beer. I'm using some 3 year old malt that I got from NCM, and it still makes great beer.

If it's crunchy, it's still good.If it is mealy or soggy, dump it.And if it tastes like good grain, it should make good beer.
