as Brewster for our annual church picnic. They posted requests for help with beverages, so I volunteered 10 gallons of homebrew. I had a keg of Ken's Cabana Lager and one of a British Brown Ale sitting around. At first the organizer was a bit skeptical, but he said OK to the donation and I showed up with beer. The guys manning the grill were immediately excited about having homebrew, and over the course of the day it was apparent that the Busch beer wasn't that popular in comparison. Two guys trundled over to me, beers in hand, to request that I make beer again next year. They're going to skip buying beer and just go with homebrew. My church is a rural Catholic Church, more the BMC drinkers than homebrew types. They loved the Cabana Lager. So :P Ken for a wonderful recipe! I had several wanting to watch me brew so they could see how it's done. Maybe I won't be the only one bringing beer in the future.

Sweet BB !!It's funny how people flock to homebrew at these events. I bring 10 gallons every year to our group picnic. Folks hover around the kegs til its gone and then turn to the cans of BMC.It sounds like you'll be converting some souls over to the dark side !!! :P

as Brewster for our annual church picnic. ...My church is a rural Catholic Church,

From the first part, I guessed it wasn't Baptist! :DOh, you wouldn't believe the flak I got over brewing. Are you an alcoholic? Why do you do this? You're reformed and going to stop brewing now, right? And then there were the few who thought it was cool I was a brewer, vintner and mazer.Of course I came to an evening church council meeting directly from another event.I forgot I was wearing a T shirt from a local brewery.Well actually, most of my T shirts are beer related. I just grab them out of the drawer and throw them on.This one was proclaiming their Scottish Ale.On the front it said "Get some Skirt"The relationship with the church went downhill from there.

Any church that is against brewing isn't the church for me.

Right. God made all the ingredients.

I'm just using them as intended - who am I to go against His will? :D

I'm not a huge church-o-reno (would Flanders say that?), but it seems to me that homebrew at a church picnic would fit right in. No sins are being committed so enjoy the all-natural wonder of beer. BB: Nice work getting everyone there to get cozy with the homebrew and leave the mass-produced American swill in the cooler. I just put a similar beer on my recipe page called Old Havana Lager. It's close to the bottom of the page and it may even be a better selection for the next time you're responsible for bringing the homebrew. Cheers.
